Chizzlers
The RMC Chizzlers group is an informal woodcarving group. Although called the Chizzlers for many years, we are listed as "Woodcarvers" in the Founders' Hall agenda. We meet on every Tuesday that Founders' Hall is open from 1:30 to 4:00pm in the upstairs art room. In order to join the group, you must be a member of Founders' Hall since we are viewed as an activity there and not part of the RMC. Currently we have 8 members and only one is not a member of RMC.
Our goal is to have fun and explore the challenges of woodcarving. As a group we pick a project to complete and then help each other figure out the details. We have no leader, nor do we have a master woodcarver. The carving can be as simple as using a knife in the creation of a caricature or it can be complex using a power Dremel, a power Chisel and various manual chisels and x-acto knives. Each member chooses the tools they feel comfortable using.
In the past few years, we have carved a Red Tailed Hawk, a polar bear, a caricature of a pig, a caricature of an old mountain man, an old world Santa Clause, and a relief. The relief is a farm scene with hills and silos and streams. We are currently working on a relief of an old covered bridge.
We carve from 1:30 to a little after 3:00pm and then go downstairs for coffee in the kitchen area. We have a lively discussion about many topics. Come and join us anytime. For questions you may have, please call Jim Callahan at 431-9503.
Some of our projects are shown below. Larger images of these and many others can be viewed by clicking here.
