Financial Group
The Financial Group meets every second Tuesday of the month from September through May at the Town Hall Annex from 10 AM to noon. It is open to all RMC members, their wives and those on the RMC wait list.
The sessions are conducted lecture style with a well-defined agenda of subjects to be covered in the session. However, the sessions are not so structured as to prohibit interaction among attendees and the presenter. A picture of a recent meeting is at the left and you can view more by clicking here.
The goal of these sessions is to provide attendees with the tools and knowledge to be able to independently manage their own investments rather than being completely dependent on brokers or financial advisers. Emphasis is on long term planning and investing taking into account the short-term needs for liquidity and the risk tolerance of the investor.
Model stock, actively managed mutual fund and ETF portfolios have been developed using selection criteria developed in the sessions. These are needed to build the confidence of the attendees to a level that will allow them to let their investments grow and realize the powers of compounding.
Unfortunately most investors do not have realistic expectations and too often sell when they should be buying and buy when they should be selling. Key factors in keeping this from occurring are structuring a portfolio that recognizes the investor's risk tolerance and the need for diversification to get the best return for the risk assumed. This approach eliminates the need for market timing and provides a portfolio good for the long term.
This is not a stock club nor is it a forum aimed at developing and using short term trading strategies. It is old-fashioned investing Warren Buffett and Benjamin Graham style.
If this is where you want to be, come join us.
If you wish to join or have questions call Dick Paul at 938-9478. Much of the information covered in our sessions relate to what is published in the RMC Newsletter in the Bulls & Bears column. Copies of this column are available from this web site by bringing up archived copies of past newsletters.
There are no prerequisites for these sessions other than a determination to learn what is needed to become independent and make your own investment decisions. Those attendees with special skills useful for session activities generously offer them for use by other attendees in need of them. We believe only by success of each individual are we successful as a group.
